Transition from Primary School to Secondary School

The transition from Primary School to Secondary School is an exciting time, full of challenges and new experiences for children and their families.  Transition to our school community starts on acceptance of a place and it does not end until pupils feel settled and happy in their new environment.  Our aim is to make this a seamless process that supports the academic, emotional, social and spiritual development of each child.  By working together with the pupils, their families and primary schools, and offering a programme of induction and transition activities, we hope to make this move an appropriate and positive one for all.

For most pupils transition goes smoothly and they are eager to begin a fresh chapter in their school life, with the new friendships, experiences and opportunities that this brings.  For some this move brings more anxiety than they can cope with, and for this reason they will need greater amounts of support and understanding both at home and in school.  Therefore, each child will experience transition differently, in a way that is appropriate to their own abilities and levels of development, and different pupils will take different amounts of time to settle.  Our aim is to work in partnership with parents and guardians offering patience, consistency and support in order to give each pupil the best possible foundation for starting secondary school.

We work hard to ensure that our strategies for Transition make a difference to every child. Our latest Estyn report noted that: 'A strong feature is the range of transition activities with partner schools, especially for pupils with additional learning needs and those in the Marion Centre'. If you think that there is anything else that we can do to help then please let us know.
